The purpose of the project was to replace three dated coarse screens that provide protection to the pumps. This project was part of an upgrade scheme that aimed to prevent flooding.

Shaftless spiral conveyors are designed for the transport of otherwise difficult to handle materials, such as municipal dewatered sludge, wastewater screenings, grit, industrial sludges or other sticky, viscous, stringy materials.

A typical sewage treatment plant uses a range of treatment processes to produce recycled water and biosolids. In wastewater treatment, the process can be divided into four steps: pretreatment, primary, secondary and tertiary treatments.

This Water Treatment Plant was built in 1985 and supplies a population of around 200,000 people with drinking water. Raw water quality has deteriorated over time due to the peaty hills the water runs down before being collected in the reservoir.

The goal of this project was to improve screening to help protect the pumps downstream, the project also responded to concerns raised by local residents regarding odours and noise from the existing screens, which are located outside the main pumping station building. To help address these concerns the equipment is placed in a new soundproof and odour controlled building.
