For more than three years the West Central Conservancy District (WCCD) successfully outloads dewatered sludge cakes with a vertical conveying and automated bin fill system.
The WCCD is a 5 MGD WWTP serving the community of Avon, Indiana. A sludge dewatering upgrade was completed in 2011 which includes a SPIRAC conveying and automated bin filling system. The automatic control system sequences conveyors and slidegates to provide optimized filling of three bins. Vertical conveyors feed two horizontals which in turn feed load distribution conveyors (total train of eight conveyors). Multiple slidegates controlled by ultrasonic level sensors ensure maximum bin filling.
“The dewatering installation operates efficiently and automatically and has provided WCCD a dramatically reduced solids discharge to landfill, reduced transport and energy costs, maintenance and manpower needs”: says Matt Hill from WCCD. (The last bit of to this sentence is of course optional and can be deleted if you want) The experiences of this project and other systems helps SPIRAC to develop and implement sustainable solutions for you.
